Core Service Area: Education & Career Development
Program Highlights

Homework Help & Tutoring

Club staff, tutors, community volunteers and peer mentors help members understand and complete their homework from the school day.

Reading

Small-group reading clubs, guest readers and computer-assisted reading activities (Accelerated Reader, Reading Blaster, etc.) help youth maintain and raise their reading levels. Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.) programs distribute more than 20,000 books to Club members each year.

Computer Proficiency

Members work with Club CyberPlace managers to learn the applications of new hardware and software. Participants study Web site design, digital animation and photography, audio recording and digital sound editing, graphic design and computer programming.

Career Prep

Youth prepare for the workforce by receiving job training. Community partners host participants in three-month employment positions to provide youth with real-world applications of their skills. Clubs host job clubs and job fairs.

ID.T. T-Shirt Shop

Independent Club teens operate a real-world graphic design and screen printing facility catering to local consumers.

The Milwaukee Clubs are currently measuring the success of their education programs by evaluating members' grades, reading levels and school attendance. For current results of our ongoing longitudinal outcomes study, click here.
