Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee was thrilled to host the first-ever Sista Circle, a gathering of professional women of color that provided mentorship and advice over lunch with Club girls. As part of the Clubs’ ongoing efforts to create programs specifically for Milwaukee girls, the Sista Circle connected 24 professional women across a variety of occupations with 24 Club girls.
Hosted by community leader and Clubs friend Mary Dowell, the luncheon gave girls the opportunity to ask the mentors questions about employment and school. The women in attendance represented decades of experience in many fields, including healthcare, financial planning, education and broadcasting. These talented leaders were happy to provide our girls with words of encouragement and swapped stories about their careers. We’re thrilled to note that this will be the first of what we hope to be many Sista Circles, as our Sista Pride committee is already planning one for later this year!
We’re thankful to Mary Dowell and the Sista Pride committee as well as the female leaders in our community for continuing to inspire our Club girls to strive for excellence! We encourage you to sign up to receive more news about girls-specific events and opportunities.
