Among the highlights of a Boys & Girls Clubs member’s summer is weekly field trips to fun, educational places in Milwaukee and beyond. For more than 70 Club members, that included a special trip of a lifetime across the country to Washington, D.C.! Split into two trips for youth in 4th through 7th grade, members boarded a bus and spent the week learning about our nation’s history at some of the most prominent museums and monuments in the country.
Thanks to the support of Senator Herb Kohl as a gift to the Clubs to establish Learning Journeys to D.C., our youth visited popular locations in our nation’s capital, including the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Youth were in awe of the Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and equally impressed by President George Washington’s mansion at Mount Vernon. Unlike other field trips, Club members even had the unique opportunity to enjoy a private pizza and dance party at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, taking photos with lifelike figures of President Obama after visiting the White House on the very same day.
Being a Boys & Girls Clubs member sure has its perks, and enjoying an amazing, jam-packed trip to Washington, D.C. is just one of them! We’re grateful to Senator Kohl for making this special experience possible.
