Re-opening our doors to the Mary Ryan Club

After extensive remodeling, we were excited to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club earlier this month. Clubs staff welcomed community leaders and supporters for a press conference followed by tours of the 57,000 square-foot building.

Clubs staff and families in attendance received words of encouragement from our President & CEO Vincent Lyles, Milwaukee County Department of Administrative Services Director Teig Whaley-Smith and Milwaukee Alderman Khalif Rainey. Attendees also heard the heartfelt words of one Clubs parent, Tamarra Lee, who proudly calls Mary Ryan a “second home” for her children.

Every room in the building was touched by the major renovations, which required 418 gallons of paint, 3,590 square-feet of carpet, 13,460 square feet of colorful rubber flooring, more than 200 pieces of new furniture and more than 1,200 new light bulbs. The newly-remodeled Club contains several spaces designed specifically for the different age groups it serves from the colorful room for five and six year-olds, to fun spaces for pre-teens. While the teen room also received some TLC, there is a much bigger project on the horizon for teen members. Our friends at HGA Architects are designing a new teen center within the Club that will feature a music studio, computers, a quiet study spot and areas for socializing and collaboration! We’re excited to better serve the neighborhood’s teen population with these ongoing projects.

The Club not only looks better, but it feels better, too. Our Mary Ryan Club members will be much more comfortable in the new space thanks to Milwaukee County’s $2.3 million investment in a new HVAC system to replace the original 25-year-old equipment.

We’re overwhelmed by the love and support our community has shown the Mary Ryan Club staff and are proud to continue serving the youth in Sherman Park and throughout Milwaukee. We would like to give a special thanks to our partners for their financial and in-kind support, making this remodeling project a success: Milwaukee County, Lowe’s Companies, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Northwestern Mutual, The Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Grainger and VJS Construction.

We also invite you to view the wonderful coverage of the Club’s grand re-opening provided by our many media partners, including a great slideshow from Milwaukee Business Journal, BizTimes, CBS 58, FOX 6, Milwaukee Courier, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, OnMilwaukee, TMJ 4, Urban Milwaukee and WISN 12.
