Northwestern Mutual donates thousands of books to Clubs

Our friends at Northwestern Mutual donated more than 6,000 books to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee last month, a generous act that helps fuel our Club members’ love for reading. The new and gently used books were originally donated by Summerfest attendees this year during Northwestern Mutual’s “Make a Child Smile” promotion, which granted free entrance to the music festival to the book donors.

Dozens of the donated books were offered directly to members of the Fitzsimonds Boys & Girls Club in August, who shuffled through piles of books to take one each, before finding spaces in the Club’s library to sit and immediately start reading. Youth gleefully snatched copies of Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree” and Bill Martin Jr.’s “Ten Little Caterpillars,” transfixed by their bright and colorful covers.

Thanks to this opportunity, our young members have more stories to read while in the educational environment offered by the Clubs! We deeply appreciate the generous donation, Northwestern Mutual!
