Anthony earned the 2016 Fox Sports Wisconsin Youth of the Year honor for being a leader at the North Division High School Boys & Girls Club, on his basketball team and in the community. Anthony became a Boys & Girls Clubs member 7 years ago because he wanted to play organized basketball and the Clubs afforded him that opportunity. In his time with the Clubs, Anthony has grown exponentially as a conscientious and engaging young man, a peer advocate and a student. Anthony currently serves as the President of North Division’s Keystone Club, took part in the ground-breaking Can You Hear Us Now? program, and serves as a mentor to younger Club members who look to him for advice.
In addition to his involvement with Boys & Girls Clubs, Anthony commits himself to service in the Milwaukee community. He served as a North Division Special Olympics volunteer, worked in the We Got This community gardening and clean-up program, and was honored with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award by Milwaukee Club Frontiers. Anthony even had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to appear on the Steve Harvey Show in January as part of We Got This. Academically, Anthony maintains strong grades while taking advanced placement classes, encouraging his fellow students to be present and participate in their classes. He plans to study at UW-Oshkosh to eventually become a teacher.
Anthony’s drive to become the National Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year is fueled by his vision of providing better college preparedness for inner-city youth across the country. Anthony would use his platform as National Youth of the Year to create and share a curriculum that schools and Boys & Girls Clubs could use to help students grasp the multitude of school options and understand what terms like scholarships, grants and loans actually mean. Anthony’s passion for helping young people achieve the success he’s experienced makes us proud to have him represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee as our Fox Sports Wisconsin Youth of the Year! We wish him the best of luck on March 8 when Anthony competes in Madison to be named the Youth of the Year for the state of Wisconsin!
