Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee teamed up with country music superstar Garth Brooks late last month for a day-long sports camp at the Pieper-Hillside Boys & Girls Club for a group of young Milwaukee girls, many of whom were Club members.
Brooks’ foundation, Teammates for Kids, worked alongside ProCamps and the UW-Madison women’s hockey team to facilitate this incredible opportunity. They took the girls through floor hockey drills by having them rotate through stations of activities. The girls also participated in a fun relay race where they had to carry a growing pile of hockey sticks back and forth across the gym.
At the end of the day Brooks spoke to the girls, encouraging them to build up their confidence and see their own worth. Brooks’ passion for helping girls realize their full potential comes from having three daughter of his own. As he told the media on hand, “It’s funny, you can tell them they’re great, but until somebody else tells them, they sometimes don’t believe it themselves.” For more coverage of this wonderful opportunity for our Club members, head over to Fox 6, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Today’s TMJ4.
Thanks to Garth Brooks, Teammates for Kids, ProCamps and the Badgers women’s hockey coaches for collaborating with us for this event that was not only full of fun, but life lessons for the girls.
