The recent stretch of great weather we experienced here in Milwaukee had us thinking back to the good ol’ days of summer, and here at the Clubs, when we think of summer we think of Camp Whitcomb/Mason. For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs has operated the 300-acre Camp in Hartland, Wis., and it has become a treasured destination for thousands of kids annually. This year more than 5,125 youth participated in its day camp and overnight camp programs.
Throughout the summer, campers look forward to participating in activities that change with each week’s theme, and July’s FOX Sports Wisconsin Camp Whitcolympics might have been Camp’s theme of the year. Over 90 campers and nearly 40 seasonal staff members were present for the week-long Olympics, which featured a variety of fun activities for youth made possible by our partners at Fox Sports Wisconsin, longtime supporters of Camp Whitcomb/Mason. Campers enjoyed arts and crafts, visited the Camp’s petting farm and went for a swim. Campers also got creative, founding their own countries and competing in evening Camp Whitcolympics activities, such as a four-way capture the flag game known as Pirate Ball, relay races and Alaskan Kickball.
Every Camper earned fun paper medals, rewarding their sportsmanship, effort, spirit and creativity. We’re grateful for Fox Sports Wisconsin for making this event possible and for the Camp scholarships they have provided to hundreds of Club members over the years.
