Fine Arts Exhibit Showcases Range of Talent
Young artists and performers will welcome 2012 at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee’s Annual Fine Arts Exhibit on Thursday, Jan. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its Mardak Administration Center located at 1558 N. 6th St. The event takes place in the building’s lower level and is free to the public.
For the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee Fine Arts Exhibit, part of the National Fine Art Exhibit program of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 70 pieces by Club members will be showcased. Participants are judged by age group and their original work is featured in one of ten categories: monochromatic drawing, multicolored drawing, pastel, watercolor, oil/acrylic, print making, mixed media, collage, sculpture and group project. In addition, the Fine Art Exhibit will feature wearable art, various food sculptures, and a drum and dance performance.
Afterwards, the first place winner of each art category and age group will advance to the Midwest Regional Fine Art Exhibit in March. First place artwork at the regional level will advance to the national contest. For the National Fine Art Exhibit, the top artwork in each of four age groups and ten categories will be selected as national winners. Their artwork will be showcased on Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s virtual gallery in May 2012. Milwaukee has had national winners two years in a row.
