Boys & Girls Clubs staff work hard to provide wonderful girls-specific programs and opportunities year-round, and we’re happy our community partners also feel those efforts are valuable. That includes three special partners who hosted and spent time with Club girls in recent weeks: General Mills, Rockwell Automation and WISN. Opportunities like these were donated at our annual Celebrating G.I.R.L.S event in November.
Our friends at General Mills, who recently surprised us with a generous donation in honor of their 150th anniversary, hosted 14 girls for a tour of its local facilities in late March. The group learned about the breadth of career opportunities in manufacturing from General Mills’ women’s network and participated in a snack mix activity that included lessons in budgeting and marketing. Rockwell Automation provided a visit to Discovery World for our Club girls in April. The “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” trip featured a warm welcome by our trustee and former Rockwell CEO Keith Nosbusch and helped inform our girls about careers in the engineering field using Discovery World’s fun atmosphere. Lastly, WISN’s Joyce Garbaciak took Club girls on a behind-the-scenes tour of the studio’s newsroom in early June, showing our youth everything that goes into professional broadcast news production.
We’re grateful to General Mills, Rockwell Automation and WISN for providing these educational opportunities for our Club girls. The support our community partners show our youth helps them grow into Milwaukee’s future leaders! Mark your calendars for our third annual Celebrating G.I.R.L.S event on November 10, 2016, where more great opportunities will be available to purchase!
