Bublr Bikes honors new teen mechanics

We’re excited to acknowledge our Club members who earned Bublr Bikes’ first bike-share mechanics certification, believed to be the first certification of its kind in the nation. The honor went to four teens who completed special classes and training sessions through Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and its partners, DreamBikes and Bublr Bikes. We’re especially grateful to our friend and community advocate John Fleckenstein, whose vision and financial support for the program made these internships possible.

Latrell Turner, Jerome White, Kadeam Wilson and Armando Ramirez began their training at our BGC B!KE shop located at the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club, spending eight weeks learning basic bicycle maintenance and tool usage. Our teens then received eight-week paid internships at DreamBikes, all the while being introduced to Bublr’s bike share program and its various stations located across the city. After attending at least four sessions with Bublr, these Club members were then granted paid internships with Bublr Bikes, where they rounded out their skills as bike mechanics, passing their final exams to earn their certifications.

Our partnerships with DreamBikes and Bublr Bikes teach handy skills in addition to important lessons in personal responsibility and accountability, ones that we’re endlessly proud to say our participating Club members took to heart. Congratulations to our newly-certified teens!
