“[Boys & Girls Clubs] is a place that encourages me to express myself in my dancing, music and how I carry myself.”
Ebonee has learned to carry herself with poise, passion and pride. Her vibrant existence is nothing short of a miracle because Ebonee was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth and given a life expectancy of three years. But she proved everybody wrong and remained active in school, in the Clubs and in the community. Ebonee lives by her grandmother’s words “Never give up” and “You’re almost there, keep climbing to the top.”
At her Club, Ebonee participated in Torch Club, Keystone Club and Sista Pride. She wants to be a catalyst in changing her community and loyally served as a public ally for the Crime Strategy Initiative. It offers teens the opportunity to make the neighborhoods a safer place to work and live through programs. She takes great pride in what she gives back to the Clubs.
At her high school, Ebonee and her friends started a movement to provide students a chance to participate in activities that would give them community service hours and, therefore, a better chance at scholarships. Now that she has completed high school, her aspiration is to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and get her degree in psychology. Once she achieves that goal, she will be the first person in her immediate family to graduate from college. Ebonee has the utmost confidence that she will reach her goals: “There is no one or thing on this earth that will stop me from achieving [becoming a psychologist].”
