“My definition of what the Club is: a positive, life-changing, learning experience.”

Watching older members at the Club assist her and others in the community inspired Darlene to do the same. She began her time with the Clubs as a member, then became a volunteer and then a youth worker. At her Club, Darlene peer mediated to help younger members resolve their differences and avoid negative situations. She also helped younger members with homework and helped create fliers and posters for Club activities. With the Keystone Club, Darlene assisted advisors with coordinating ideas and events. She flourished in the Clubs because it gave her a safe place to go away from the dangerous activities happening on the streets.

It is a priority to become a woman who makes her family proud and serve as a role model.
